Good Slasher Films That Deserve to Be the Next Horror Remakes

The greatest thing to come out of remaking the scariest movie ever is the added attention the original receives. In a way, these horror remakes introduce creepy movies that would otherwise be forgotten to a whole new generation of audiences. So look at horror remakes as a modern tribute to films that deserve their reputation. The following five slasher films deserve such tributes. Besides, Hollywood is going to remake them anyway. They're out of ideas!
5. Curtains
A killer in an old hag's mask...does scary movie horror get any creepier than this? The film has not been released officially on DVD, though you can find it online, and from public domain vendors.
4. The Prowler
This slasher flick features an unknown soldier in fatigues, helmet, and mask...head-to-toe covering...who knows how to use a bayonet, and effects by Tom Savini. Gruesome! DVD is currently available.
3. Alice, Sweet Alice
Respectable gore and perhaps the scariest mask ever worn in a slasher flick. Watch out for the China Doll Killer in her yellow raincoat. Note: Last word had this remake might actually happen under the guidance of low-budget filmmaker Dante Tomaselli, who also happens to be related to Alfred Sole, the original director.
2. Don't Look Now
A film M. Night Shyamalan ripped off in one of his better efforts, this nerve-wracking flick follows a couple mourning the drowning death of their daughter. They steal away to Venice, where the husband starts experiencing strange visions of, among other things, a small person in a red mack, who may or may not be his dead daughter. The final moments of this one, once seen, will never leave your brain – truly disturbing. A remake is actually scheduled for 2009.
1. Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker
As twisted and disturbing as they come, this excellent horror movie stars Susan Tyrrell in what may be the most horrifying performance ever captured on film. She is the mentally imbalanced aunt of a young man, who lost his parents when he was a child. Now that he's growing in to a strong young teenager, she wants to be more than just his aunt, and she'll kill anyone that gets in her way. Bo Svenson and Jimmy McNichol co-star in a shockfest that was once considered a "Video Nasty," and thus banned in Great Britain. No remake on the horizon, but DVD special edition is promised soon.
Final Thoughts
Who knows what the future of horror remakes holds? With new versions of Friday the 13th and Halloween scoring big at the box office, the trend is sure to continue. Audiences might as well have horror remakes that actually have something to work with. In the case of the five above films, filmmakers have plenty of solid material...provided they continually fail to come up with their own.
